2026 Survey Highlights What’s Holding Homeowners Back From Water Efficiency
A new national survey of 1,286 homeowners with irrigation systems finds that the challenge to improving outdoor water efficiency may not be a lack of motivation. Across six irrigation and landscaping activities, 36% of homeowners are already taking action and another 44% say they are willing to start or do more.
The findings point instead to barriers such as cost, time, physical effort and complexity. They also highlight an important role for industry professionals: 67% of respondents said access to a certified irrigation specialist would make them more likely to act on irrigation maintenance and scheduling, while 69% said the same for irrigation system upgrades.
