Findings from the National Gardening Association’s 2026 National Gardening Survey | Greenhouse Management

The boom times have decidedly ended. Horticultural businesses need to double down on the data and trends to hold on to the most loyal garden consumers, Greenhouse Management magazine found in its 2026 Trends Report. The National Gardening Association’s 2026 National Gardening Survey is an annual survey conducted earlier this year by Garden Research, the research division of the National Gardening Association, surveyed 2,491 individuals on their lawn and garden-related activities and associated spending.

Farm Bill passes out of Senate Agriculture Committee | Nursery Management

The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry met Sept. 16 for the first time since early August to re-vote on the Agriculture Act of 2026 — the Senate’s version of a Farm Bill — and pass it along party lines by a vote of 12 to 11. Congress will face a busy legislative agenda when they return to Capitol Hill after Election Day in November. The House of Representatives had already planned to end its session two weeks early, starting the midterm recess Friday, Sept. 18, when Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced he was canceling Thursday’s votes and sending lawmakers home one day earlier.

ASLA launches free guide to assess site carbon emissions

the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) released Landscape Architecture 2040: Guide to Site Carbon Assessment v1, the first standardized methodology for measuring the embodied carbon, operational greenhouse gas emissions and carbon storage of site projects. The guide details methods for assessing a new life cycle phase — Landscape Carbon Storage (B9). This enables landscape architects to calculate the carbon storage of existing and proposed trees, plants and soils in a uniform way.

Farmers Adopting AI Faster Than Any Other Tech

Bloomberg’s Michael Hirtzer reported, “Artificial intelligence (AI) use is surging on farms as growers look for some high-tech help in planning and managing operations after years of scaling back on spending, according to McKinsey & Co.” “Some 17% of the world’s farmers now use generative AI in farm-related tasks, making it one of the fastest-growing technologies in agriculture, McKinsey said in its Global Farmer Insights 2026 report, published Tuesday,” Hirtzer reported.
